We often get calls from home owners, farmers, ranchers, and ADC Trappers who have, in the past, had difficulties catching smart critters. Frustrated by weeks or months without success, some will go online and find Comstock Cage Traps. Animals like raccoons can get wised up to conventional pan traps when a trap misfires, does not hold up or is just plain slow. Once educated a raccoon will reach over a pan to grab bait or beat an unpowered, slow gravity door. Once they catch on to the way a the trap works, they are sharp as a tack, seemingly impossible to catch. In the morning all that remains is a fired trap, minus the bait. At times they bend and break doors on a poorly constructed traps, making the animal incredibly hard to entice for a second go round.
The highly powered, rugged Comstock Traps with the wire trigger offer an alternative, something different they have not seen. Pictured is one such raccoon that had avoided capture for months in a conventional pan trap. The wire trigger did the trick, while the solid construction means escape is all but impossible.
