To accomodate shallow water, without having to waste time and energy digging out channels to place the swim through traps under water, Fred Lawrence of Washington and his partner Rob Shogren requested a Comstock Swim Through Beaver Cage Trap with a lower profile, only 10 inches high. Our standard traps are 12 inches high. Lethal traps require a three day check, while a trap holding a live animal must be checked daily. To debunk the myth that somehow taller traps are preferred or in any way necessary for trapping beaver, even big ones, this trap illustrates the point that smaller traps do the job. Like a 280 conibear, this trap, with only an 8 1/2 inch high opening between the door and top frame is all that is necessary to take beaver with regularity and consistency, even big ones. Fred and his partner Rob have been catching beaver since last year with the custom smaller traps, no mention of refusals or issues. Pictured is one of the larger beavers the boys caught, at dandy 52 pounder.
