—COMSTOCK MULTIPURPOSE—
—Woodchuck, (Groundhog), Skunk, Armadillo, Raccoon, Opossum—
The trap I am referring to in this case is specifically designed to use be used at den sites in what we call positive sets. However, with no limitations it can be used virtually anywhere in just about any situation. Anytime you have a denning animal, Groundhog, Skunk, Opossum, Armadillo or Raccoon these traps are an incredibly effective tool when placed in front of free standing holes, dens under porches and decks or even on soffits.
Before inventing the Comstock Line of traps I had used several types and brands of existing cage traps. As they say, none of them “cut the mustard.” It was due to the limitations and shortcoming of those traps that pushed me to develop a new superior line of cage traps, not just to sell, but traps we could use in our own nuisance wildlife business.
In the beginning, while looking for the best cage traps for our business we found that a number of manufacturers made only single door traps, a huge disadvantage. After starting out with single door traps, “bait and wait,” while working through a learning curve, we made the switch to double door traps, which completely changed our approach to animal damage control trapping, ADC. Our focus became baitless trapping in “positive” den sets for groundhogs first. In time this grew to include skunks, armadillos, opossum and raccoon. Though this was a big step in the right direction, there was more to be done to improve upon existing equipment.
Much more difficult to engineer and build, but necessary, our goal was to make the most effective traps possible, which resulted in the patented wire trigger, double powered door cage traps. After mastering the basic double door model to capture animals coming from either direction, we went on to make a trap that could be placed at or over den sites. There are other traps that purported to be “universal,” but that certainly was not the case as they were merely single door traps. Additionally, though some single door cage traps do have a “nose cone” directional device that has a door at the end and an opening under the nose cone, the traps don’t have the option of being set sideways to a den hole or capturing animals returning to the den. We built the first and only double door cage trap with side flaps on the nose cone, as well as an end flap and bottom opening, making it actually a “4 way” nose cone. This trap can be set straight out from a den hole, left or right at a deck, porch or barn and over a free standing den making these traps by far the most versatile in the world, all without the use of bait or lure.
First designed to be used on ground dwelling animals, some have even used them on soffits to capture raccoons going in and out of attics. Due to the combination of wire trigger and powered doors, these traps will work in any position, right side up, upside down, sideways and vertically. They can be mounted on walls vertically for raccoons as well or at any angle. Exceeding expectations, the multipurpose Comstock 9x11x36 cage trap really has no equal or limitations other than the imagination and creativity of the user.
Wire triggers with powered doors gave the traps unsurpassed stability. The can be rolled over and moved without firing, something not seen in any other cage trap. Powered doors meant animals would be far less apt to back out. With a solid frame not only was breakage nonexistent, but escape was all but impossible.
