This fellow had been using single door, gravity, pan traps even using macaroni and cheese and also steak for bait, “perfect.” As vegetarians chucks would have no interest in those baits. With baitless double door Comstock Cage Traps, nose cone and method it would be routine, set and catch. I got the call this morning. You have a groundhog in each trap. It goes like this every time. Set at the den site. Catch them coming or going. We usually use the 24 inch model, but we have caught hundreds in the 18’s and also 30’s. They all work. There are no less than 4 combinations of traps for the job. It comes down to personal preference as we have a double door multipurpose trap with built in nose cone, flush mount models in 24, 30 and 36 inch lengths and the old reliable double door traps. They can be used with either the 3 way wire nose cone splitter or metal nose cones.
