I got a call about “squirrels” living in a house. Something, a rodent, had chewed in the ceiling above the basement stairs and also chewed a 2 inch diameter hole in the base of a door. The hole looked as if it had been done with a dull drill bit, wood chips everywhere. I set traps as usual, 2 baited traps and a positive set over the whole in the door. Usually gray squirrels are captured first or second night. So it was a bit odd that I didn’t get a call until the 6th day. It’s not always easy to tell which rodent is doing the chewing, gray squirrel, red squirrel or other, but he traps used and methods are about he same.
Got the call we had caught a rat. I drove right up and found that we had actually caught 2 rats. Rats are reluctant to go near anything new, changes to the environment. It took a few days for them to calm down, but they finally got used to seeing the traps and got caught.
