For the first time I finally caught two beaver in one of the Comstock swim through beaver cage traps, an adult and a smaller beaver that was a year or two old.  This particular trap above was a bit larger than the standard 12x18x39 trap we offer for sale.  However, a number of trappers have caught two beaver in our standard model.  The first we heard of was a home owner who lives about 30 miles south of us.  Angela Hawkins also caught two beaver at once as well as even more trappers who have caught two otter at the same time.  Seven years ago when we were just getting going we made a few odd sized traps.  The trap shown has a 14×22 opening at 44 inches long.  We also made two more with the same opening and a bit shorter at 38 inches long.  Since then we made a few custom XL beaver cage traps 15x24x36.  Sometimes a trap with wide opening just makes it easy to cover a wide run, no blocking necessary.

I’m a numbers guy.  The standard trap has 216 square inches at the opening, while the trap shown has 308 square inches.  The XL trap has 360.  A while back we made a 12×15 with 180 square inches at the opening, down to the 12×12 with 144.  What we took away from all the experimenting was that they all worked without issue.
